Reclaiming Backyard Space

Project Scope

Create more flat space for a larger patio and lawn.  The relocated retaining wall and slope plantings had to be designed to provide year round interest when viewed from inside the house as well as from the backyard.  The client did not want to install an irrigation system so the plantings on the south facing slope had to be very drought and heat tolerant.  New evergreen screening of the house at the top of the slope was needed.  The job start date got pushed back to mid-spring which forced us to reverse the normal installation order and plant the hillside before the masonry on the wall was completed.  This allowed the plants to begin taking root before the worst of the summer heat arrived.
